The Wentworth In the Press

Ski Ski Resort Spotlight:

y y By Jessica Wei, A Montreal based Journalism Graduate

It might not beat Mt. Washington in terms of elevation (but then again, who can?), but Wildcat Mountain’s 4,422 feet is nothing to scoff at, either. Part of the Carter-Moriah Range of the White Mountains, this well-known New Hampshire ski area faces Carter Dome to the northeast and mighty Mount Washington to the west. So those five summits are pretty scenic. Aside from its many trails and terrain parks for skiers and riders, its premise also contains the Wildcat Valley Trail, an ungroomed cross-country trail that snakes from the summit all the way down to Jackson, New Hampshire.

Located just a skip and a ski away from the quintessential New Hampshire town of Jackson, Wildcat Mountain is a perfect weekend getaway for visitors and their families from Portland or Boston, as both cities are just a few hours by car from the ski area.

“The Wentworth is a throwback to a more elegant time; like the Mt. Washington Hotel, it has a gracious charm that made us feel like F. Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald. Beautifully maintained, the modern updates have been done in ways that don’t diminish that sense of being transported to a different world.” Read full review

“While ‘an elegant country inn’ is befitting for The Wentworth, An Elegant Country Inn,one is not quite sure if they’ve arrived at an inn, a boutique hotel or a resort when they enter the lobby. All three terms apply to this graceful inn. Forgive me if I gush, but The Wentworth is one of my ‘bucket list’ inns, earning this distinction for attending to every detail from tiny to essential.”

“New Hampshire's most romantic ski town in has to be Jackson. The village gateway is a beautiful red covered bridge, some call it the Kissing Bride, others the Honeymoon Bridge - you get the picture. Trees sparkle with tiny white lights, snow blankets fields where cross country skiers pass, and candlelight inns invite you in. The grandest of the handful of inns in Jackson Village is The Wentworth, the elegant elder dame at a century and half old (1869). Ice sculptures lined the veranda as we arrived for our romantic winter getaway. Inside the lobby was a roaring fire and music from the pianist playing in the cozy lounge...”
