Christmas Can Cure: A Memorable Event

On Monday, December 15th, the Wentworth had the honor of participating
in an evening event: Christmas Can Cure. This spectacular event was the closing gathering for chosen Veterans and their families, and individuals who volunteered to help make their Christmas memorable. The gift of uplifting the human spirit continues on daily for the rest of our lives. The lowering of the flag Tuesday morning was a memorable ending for the Christmas Can Cure event. This organization has a complex
mission, one that with enough assistance from community members, can continue
to strengthen our heroes. Originally formed by Jackson New Hampshire native,
Dr. Gerald Carrier and his family, it has grown into something magical for the families who participate and for those volunteering their time.
Christmas Can Cure sets out to provide safe and healthy environments for the chosen Veterans and their families to experience the magic of the perfect Christmas. Through the partnership with The Wounded Warriors Project, this year’s mission focused on
two families, which consisted of three Veterans. The recipe for healing began with elegant accommodations for the two families at our Inn, The Wentworth. Once settled in, a delicious buffet was served for supper and the Veteran’s and their families had the chance to unwind and begin to ease into the new surroundings. A flag raising ceremony followed the next morning, and then the mission truly took flight. Over the next few days, activities and experiences that the Veterans thought would never be possible again, were made reality. Activities included ice skating, spa treatments, alpine skiing, casually strolling the downtown North Conway shopping district, Polar Express rides to meet Santa Clause, winter tubing, barber shop visits, and even date night. The goal was to create a place where mental and physical strain took a back seat and it was successful.

Veterans all over the world have suffered, witnessed, and experienced severe difficulties. The Wounded Warrior Project and Christmas Can Cure offer a helping hand for those Veterans.
They deserve to be honored, cherished and helped through their healing process, and this is exactly what these organizations offer.
