Now that the trees have shed their leaves and the color of autumn rests magically on the ground, the season of snow is surely upon us. Here in the quaint village of Jackson, we have exactly what the winter-loving soul craves. On Saturday November 22nd, nestled in the heart of Jackson, Black Mountain Ski Area will host their 8th Annual Snow Dance. Beginning at 4:30 pm join them for an evening of entertainment, snow dancing and après spirits in the pub! Oh yeah, and did we mention the huge bonfire? How could your weekend get any better?

Leave a Comment On Friday, February 3rd, The Wentworth hosted its first ever Broom Ball game behind the hotel on our freshly groomed ice skating rink. This was brought on by a challenge from the Jackson Fire Department toward the Bartlett Fire Department. What is broomball you ask….

On Monday, January 9th we had nine carvers from around New England carve 300 lb blocks of ice into clowns, dragons, fish, a margarita bar, angels and even a road runner. Over the years we have seen these sculptures melt in as little as a few days or last until the middle of March.

Leave a Comment On Tuesday January 4th Pat, Ellie, Irina and Karen from The Wentworth Front Desk took advantage of a gracious offer from Thom at the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation and took a complimentary cross country ski lesson with equipment rental for the day. We arrived at 10:30AM and were promptly taken care of by Denise and before we knew it we were on the trails! Our teacher Barbara was excellent and showed us how to glide, stop, go uphill, slow down on a not so steep slope and slow down on a steep slope. Our one hour lesson turned into a two hour lesson and we laughed the entire time.
After the lesson Fritz showed up with a lunch and we all skied on the Ellis River Trail to the warming hut to enjoy a well deserved lunch. What we learned was that not only is cross country skiing fun, but it can be enjoyed by everyone, of any age and of any availability. We encourage all of our guests to take advantage of this winter wonderland right outside the door of The Wentworth No special equipment or clothing is needed – all the equipment you will need is available at the center and a warm hat, gloves and coat is all you need.
My only wish is that I had a picture of us to put on here but our one camera that we brought with us was out of battery.
