Our historic hotel here in Jackson Village—tucked into the embrace of the White Mountains, the highest in the Northeast, and complete with its own covered bridge—provides exquisite accommodations, on-site dining, and an absolutely lovely setting for celebrating the one you love.

The Wentworth Inn: A Love Story

The Wentworth would stand out as a Valentine’s Day destination no matter what, but a genuine love story happens to be woven right into our very beginnings as a White Mountains hotel.

Joshua Trickey built this grand, European-style hotel for his daughter, Georgia, and her fiancée, General Marshall Wentworth. We still have the letter, dated November 30, 1869, wherein General Wentworth formally asks Mr. Trickey for his daughter’s hand in marriage.

Near the end of that elegant note, he writes, “I am very anxious to see your lovely daughter once more—it seems an age since I saw her. You can imagine how I feel to be separated from a lady that I love better than my life for two long years and not once having the pleasure of seeing her the whole time.”

You can read the whole letter on our “History” page. Needless to say, we think the romance underpinning the Wentworth Inn’s very founding continues to imbue the property with a certain special warmth, something any and all lovebirds are sure to pick up on!

Valentine’s Day at the Wentworth: Romance-Worthy Deals & Epicurean Ecstasy
