20th Annual Ice Carving Competition held at The Wentworth
This past Monday January 5th, the whole of Mount Washington Valley surely felt the chill in the air. Mother Nature was gracing us with her presence of fresh snow and cold temperatures which aided to the snow-making at local New England ski areas. Here in the quaint village of Jackson we featured an annual tradition to help combat the cold.
The 20th Annual Great Ice Carvers Invitational Ice Carving Competition began at 10:00 am on that sun filled Monday morning. Seven extremely talented gentleman, Dennis Hickey, Stephen Kesheb, Shawn Grenier, David Soho, Murray Long, John Shew, and Wayne Miller, were given a large block of ice and asked to create their masterpiece.
As passerby’s stopped to admire the men at work with their chainsaws, flat chisels, ice knifes and various bits and grinding tools, one could see that these blocks of ice were being transformed into beautiful works of art.
Once the judges met to tally the votes, a signature Wentworth Luncheon was offered and the competitors could finally sit back and enjoy the view. It was a spectacular day to be in Jackson Village, New Hampshire.
First Place: Shawn Grenier
Second Place: Murray Long
Third Place: John Shew
We hope to see you all next year at the 21st Annual Ice Carving Competition!
