Square Ledge and Lost Pond Short Hike

This short hike of just 30 minute each way (1 mile each way) is perfect for a quick jaunt into nature. You’ll see gorgeous vistas of Mt. Washington from a space above Pinkham Notch. To go to Lost Pond is also approximately 1 mile.

To start with, you’ll go along the river a short while. Then, the hike will move up to the pond, and you’ll get great views of Huntington Ravine and the Gulf of Slides.

Challenging Mt. Washington Climb

For much more of a challenge, you can also climb Mt. Washington! This journey takes you on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail. Over the span of the trail, you’ll gain over 4,200 feet! Plan ahead for this difficult trip, and only go if you feel confident about your hiking skill level as it will likely take you about 8 hours in total.

Carter Notch Area Hike

You’ll find several hiking trails from the end of Carter Notch Road. One of these is Hall’s Ledge, which takes about two to three hours and is five miles roundtrip. This is actually on a cross-country skilling trail that is wide enough to hike in the off-season. Moreover, you can see moose on this trail if you’re lucky — watch for them as the sun sets.
