An Epic Journey Into The Sub-Arctic World of Mt. Washington

 

 

All aboard the Mt. Washington SnowCoach as we ascend the highest peak in the Northeastern United States

Last week two lucky ladies from our Front Desk had the experience of a life time while aboard the Mt. Washington SnowCoach.  Growing up in this area, Jamie and Meaghan are no stranger to Pinkham Notch, Mt. Washington, or its surrounding valleys. Yet, these two locals had an exceptional first-time adventure!

The Mt. Washington SnowCoach is a 9 passenger tour vehicle that was custom designed to climb up the Mt. Washington Auto Road in winter. Instead of four wheels, this vehicle is equipped with an aggressive track system that is perfect for traveling along the extreme terrain. Guests are transported up to over 4,000 feet above sea level, into a sub-arctic world above tree line. These fascinating vehicles were recently converted to propane, or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which is a safe, clean-burning, and high energy alternative fuel. Want to learn more? Click here.

As you leave the base of Mt. Washington and begin the ascent your tour guide, who is also an experienced SnowCoach driver, begins to tell the history of the mountain. They are always full of fun facts, and they even stopped twice so that we could jump out to take photos! The weather on Mt. Washington changes in a minute… literally.

Jamie and Ron enjoy a blue bird sky and they can see for miles. On the other hand, Meaghan and Darwin enjoy a firsthand experience of Mt. Washington’s ever changing weather! While both couples embarked on the same journey, you can see how different each experience was.
