North Conway Summer Activities
Our White Mountain backdrop here at the Wentworth Inn makes, we’d venture to say, one of New England’s finest outdoor playgrounds, and certainly account for some of its most glorious scenery. While you’re lodging with us at the grand and historic Wentwoth Inn, here are a few of the recreational opportunities awaiting your adventurous (or sporting) spirit!
Hiking
Hiking opportunities abound in our neck of the woods, whether you’re looking for easy nature walks, hardcore mountain traverses, or something in between. Less than 10 miles from the Wentworth hikers can visit one of our area’s genuine magic spots: Diana’s Baths, a series of cascades and falls on Lucy Brook that the Sokokis people called the “home of the water fairies.”
More stunning falls await in Crawford Notch State Park, situated in the great namesake pass through the White Mountains. You can hike to Arethusa Falls, which, at some 140 feet, ranks as one of the state’s tallest waterfalls; the same trail also accesses Ripley Falls. Meanwhile, the hike up to the summit of 2,804-foot Mount Willard delivers an unforgettable prospect of Crawford Notch as well as the crown of the White Mountains, the Presidential Range, including the Northeast’s highest peak, 6,288-foot Mount Washington.
Speaking of views, more fabulous ones await from the top of Black Cap Mountain, an easy 2.4-mile round-trip ramble just outside North Conway.
Biking
Whether it’s road biking country lanes or bumping along mountain trails, cycling opportunities are equally plentiful and equally varied in our big backyard here at the Wentworth Inn. The nearly 20-mile-long Presidential Rail Trail (also open to hiking) serves up spectacular views of our mountain kingdom. Some excellent mountain-biking options, meanwhile, include the Red Tail Trail by Crawford Mountain and the routes up at Attitash Mountain Resort, Bretton Woods, and other area ski resorts.
River Running
The great Saco River—which heads in Crawford Notch—is renowned for its rafting, kayaking, canoeing, and tubing opportunities, and they’re within amazingly easy reach of you when you’re kicking back at the Wentworth Inn. Numerous local outfitters rent boats and lead guided river outings.
Climbing
Nearby Echo Lake State Park includes two esteemed climbing destinations: Cathedral and White Horse ledges, their granite walls both prominent landmarks from North Conway. Cathedral Ledge, incidentally, is also a great hiking destination, delivering some whopper views.
Golf
Golfers, of course, have a field day at the Wentworth Inn, given they’ve got the 18-hole Wentworth Golf Club at their convenient disposal. There are other options in the region, too, including the North Conway Country Club and the Indian Mound Golf Course. We recently spotlighted some of these on-the-greens opportunities—and the golf packages we offer—here at the Wentworth Inn blog: Check it out!
