The Wentworth – Hiking & Biking Trails near Jackson, NH
With a luxurious base at The Wentworth here in Jackson, New Hampshire, you’ve got endless opportunities for outdoor recreation in the stunning White Mountains at your fingertips. Here are some (repeat: some) of the best hiking and biking destinations within easy daytrip reach of your accommodations at our historic New England inn!
Mount Washington
It’s something of a New England hiking rite of passage to summit Mount Washington—at 6,288 feet, the high point of the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, and the crowning peak of the Northeast—via the popular yet challenging Tuckerman Ravine Trail. Needless to say, the views all along the way are stunning, but you’ll be working for them: Better than 4,200 feet of elevation gain are involved, so only tackle this climb if you’re confident of your physical condition.
Crawford Notch State Park
More wonderful White Mountains views and an awesome roster of waterfalls make Crawford Notch State Park—just a hop, skip, and a jump from The Wentworth—another must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts. Consider the relatively short hikes to the showstopper Arethusa and Ripley falls, and survey the Presidential Range from the top of 2,804-foot Mount Willard via a 2.8-mile round-trip trek.
Echo Lake & Cathedral Ledge State Parks
These adjoining parks right near Jackson offer an intermingled trail system accessing some of the area’s scenic highlights, including the namesake landmarks of Echo Lake and Cathedral Ledge as well as the stunning White Horse Ledge.
Local Bike Trails
Great cycling is just as easy to come by in our neck of the woods. One fantastic option is the 18-mile-long Presidential Recreational Rail Trail, which threads the Silvio O. Conte National Fish & Wildlife Refuge on its way between Cherry Pond and Gorham, and serves up some great Presidential Range vistas.
Several of our local ski areas, meanwhile, offer topnotch mountain-biking trails in the summertime, including Resort and Bretton Woods.
